I’ve had this happen to me more times then I’m willing to admit…sometimes even in public, like in a restaurant after a purchase. Why do I bring an action figure into a restaurant with me you ask? So I can look at it and fiddle around while I wait for my food. DUH!
So I finally got my grubby little nerd hands on TRANSFORMERS: WAR FOR CYBERTRON. Dear lord is it fun. Scouts in particular are fun to play as. Their alt-mode is fast as all hell and there is nothing more satisfying than hitting a jump at full speed and transforming just before impact before blowing some poor drone to scrap. If you can do everything above and finish with a melee smash…even better!
If the gameplay isn’t enough for you, the dialogue is fantastic. The people who made this game really did their homework on how the dialogue and character aspects should work. I’m more impressed than I thought I’d be. Worth every penny I spent on it.
I also found me a nifty GENERATIONS THRUST this weekend. This guy has got quite a history. First he was a Botcon Exclusive…
The fans raged
Then he we released as a takara exclusive…
Some fans raged…some fans rejoiced…
Finally, he’s been given a mass release under the GENERATIONS sub-line along with his brother-in-arms DIRGE…
The fans are indifferent…at least, if there was raging I haven’t heard it.
Has the fanbase finally grown tired of the un-needed drama? I mean, seriously, they’re TOYS for godssake. Why get so pissy about these things? What purpose does it serve?
Anyways, I got mine, he’s cool…as expected. Finally, I have some new Decepticons to fill out my CLASSICS DECEPTICONS shelf. The CLASSICS AUTOBOTS shelf was filled long ago. Up until now, the CD’s have had to share the shelf with Altair and um…the guy from the second Assassin’s Creed game…both of which are also fantastic video games.
My home-boy from another country General Tekno also found me a HUMAN ALIANCE MUDFLAP, who’s been out for months, but around here the HA toys aren’t exactly best sellers…so they don’t restock them…EVER!!!! If that’s not the bee’s knees, he’s also got it for around $15, around half price!!! SWEET! This weekend has been great for the nerd in me.
Who do you think should be the next president of the United States?
John Stewart…not because I’m a raging fanboy, but because I think he has a great head on his shoulders and has the best viewpoint on politics I’ve heard in the past few years: “Both sides are idiots, stop wasting time arguing with each other and get sh*t done.”
Open to May, When we were young and brave.
Took steps to remove me, I’ll come in and out with the tides.
The lost and the loved, I admire.
You had every chance to close this, to take it all down and out of sight.
Where there’s nothing to find and there’s nothing to hide.
Your breath fills my skin, all the way in.
In the event of an emergency I’ll ask for your saving again.
Return to now, as we are opened wide.
Underneath the haze of lights and scents of cigarettes and lies.
So say your goodbyes and let it all die tonight.
‘Cause you had every chance to close this, and let it all in and out of sight, where there’s nothing to hide, where faith buries strife
Your breath fills my skin, All the way in.
In the event of emergency I’ll ask for your saving again.
I’d sleep in mountains of rain to never escape from the endless you.
And we’ll side step the masses and live life through glasses of truth.
And you’ll never go away, Yeah you’ll never go away
It’s finally Friday…thank god. For some reason I’ve been really lethargic lately. Perhaps it’s the allergies that every morning give me a thorough ass-kicking before work, maybe it’s something else, I’m not entirely sure. All I AM sure of, is that since it’s the weekend, it’s ok if I don’t do a god-damn thing for hours at a time. Although, oddly enough, my weekends always seem to be booked solid with one thing or the other. Which isn’t a bad thing, not at all.
So I watched ALICE IN WONDERLAND last night. Now…Tim Burton has always been a bit of a personal god for me, so you can imagine how terrible I felt when PLANET OF THE APES sucked all kinds of ass. Since then he’s somewhat redeemed himself. CORPSE BRIDE was ok, and I don’t think anyone really had too much of a problem with SWEENY TODD, but still, nothing has been truly outstanding from him in a good long while. So when I heard about ALICE I was excited. I figured this was a no-brainer right? Then details came in…horrifying details.
Johnny Depp was the Mad Hatter…and it wasn’t just a cameo…he was a central character…why exactly? Oh, because they’re butt-buddies. Well…not really but you know what I mean. They’re so hard for each other that whenever one does a movie, more often than not the other has something to do with it.
And really…that’s one of the biggest flaws of the movie. Johnny does such an uninspired performance you have to think that perhaps the idea that the character was central to the plot might have been acceptable if the actor was better? A better script wouldn’t have killed them either.
Oh god…that script.
I could count the ways that scripts fails but frankly I’m saving my energy for the conclusion to my in-depth review of the new NIGHTMARE remake. So in short, think of it this way…
Go to FANFICTION.NET, and search for ALICE IN WONDERLAND fanfiction. I guarantee you that within 10 minutes you’ll find at least three with the same opening scene that was done in this movie…and in extension, a similar ending. It’s like they didn’t even try. You know what, here’s an idea…if you’re going to have someone like Tim Burton do this movie…why not go the extra mile and have him write it? You know, cause he did this little movie, kinda similar in the theme of fish-out-of-water fairy tale…it was big in the 90’s…and every year since? You know what I’m talking about? It’s been adopted by goth kids that think it’s “hip and gritty?” Over commercialized by HOT TOPIC to the point where even INVADER ZIM thinks it’s getting ridiculous?
huh…why is it slipping my mind. I’m sure it’ll come to me sooner or later.
If you could have been the author of any book, what would it have been?
TWILIGHT, so at the end of each book I could write. “You actually read this shit all the way through? Wow, how sad are you? Thanks for your hard-earned cash, you won’t be seeing it again anytime soon.”
Some of you might remember the “Kids at Heart” video I made for work last summer. And for those who don’t, here you go…
Well, each year Mystic Seaport submits two videos to the TELLY AWARDS. Last year was my first submission, and I lost. So this year, I was prepared once again to not win anything. However, to my surprise, I won a Bronze! Awesome!
Sadly the statues are $150 a piece and the one the Seaport buys stays put so I’ll have to settle for a picture with the award and a copy of the certificate. Still, it’s a great kick in the pants for me and I’m totally stoked to be able to put something like this on my resume.
Of course I can’t take all the credit for this…so here’s a list of people who deserve just as much of the honor as I do…
Dan Harvison: Cameraman and post production editor Krystal Kornegay: Co-star VRC Staff Suki Williams Mike O’Ferrell
Without these wonderful people the video would never have gotten off the ground, let alone win an award.
The past few nights have been a wash for comic work, but I got to spend some much needed friend/video game time so it’s a fair trade. Tonight is when I intend to catch up. There’s a lot I want to get done mostly because I’m trying to be more motivated to get work done.
I’m doing my best to keep my expectations low for things. Like the 300th comic said, I have no delusions of my status amongst the community. I’m one out of countless comics, and god knows how many are college-based and semi-auto graphical. Still…one of my personal flaws is having wild pipe dreams about things. Thankfully I have enough of a frame of mind to let them fizzle out before I start investing significant time and energy into them. So although I don’t kill myself over my comic, spending time and money churning out ad banners on other sites or guest comics just to get my name out there (I only do guest comics for comics I love and as part of trades), I still try new things to get some attention. After all, everyone likes a little recognition right?
Fortunately this never gets in the way of integrity. An easy way for me to get recognized is to churn out fan-art for a random rabid fandom on DA or better yet…hentai. You will notice I do neither (the Emma nudes were part of a study…I swear :P) I am thankful for my levelheadedness in this.
Anyways…dunno where that came from, just thinking out loud I guess.
Talking with a friend about the new side project tentatively titled DELIGHTFULLY ABSURD. Trying to get him in as a co-writer. He’s got a fantastic sense of humor that would fit this project perfectly. Here’s hoping this side-project actually gets off the ground. So many have fallen by the wayside for one reason or another.
