Because it’s funny, that’s why!!
I know I have been posting a lot of HARVEST MOON stuff lately…
…well tough tomahawks (yeah, I know that’s not a real saying but I’m trying it out for size, it’s gonna be a thing!) cause I got jack else to post about.
My life has gotten pleasantly boring as of late and I’m enjoying it as best I can without being bored. Sure, I feel guilty for spending hours on end laying on the couch playing a video game about being a productive member of society instead of actually being one myself, but hell, I’m 26, single, and live by myself. If that’s how I want to spend my time off, who’s to nag me about it? No one that’s who!!
Even Transformer collecting has taken a bit of Hiatus. Sure, that’s because the DOTM toys are just as awful as the movie, but still KRE-O has been released and I’ve still to seriously consider purchasing them. Of course, when the PRIME toys come out, all bets are off…
Also, some of my sloth can be blamed on Netflix…or Qwikster…or Boneyouintheassbecausewehavenoideahowtorunasuccessfulcompany-ster…or whatever the hell they want to call themselves. DVD cue has been full up on BURN NOTICE, and BREAKING BAD was just added to the Instant Watch along with a ton of MST3K Gamera movies…sure they’re *shudders* Joel episodes. But for Gamera, I’ll take the not-at-all-as-funny-as-Mike Bullet.
Apparently they put lesbians in ADVENTURE TIME and both sides are freaking out. One side because “OMG I love LESBOS!!” the other side because “OMG I hate LESBOS!!” Frankly, I think both sides are missing the big picture; the princess is made of bubblegum. It’s not going to work out between them…she has no blood for the vampire chick to drink. It’s common sense people…come on.
Lastly, I finally have a decent collection of liquor to constitute the phrase “Liquor Cabinet.” At the moment it contains a full 750ml minus one shot of Sailor Jerry Rum, an unopened 750ml of Woodford Reserve bourbon, and 3/4 of a Flask of Jim Beam Black bourbon…ok, so maybe “Bourbon Cabinet” is more accurate, but you get the picture.
…bourbon is delicious.
This movie finally gets a US Blu Ray release this September. I can’t friggin wait.
Here’s hoping Captain Flop-sweat makes an appearance in this one too…
Hey…Mill Creek Entertainment…it’s been, what? 12 years since you first announced this…how about following through on it huh?
Captain Flop-Sweat…the greatest human character from a Kaiju film…EVER!!!
So, I’ve been having a pretty heavy binge on kaiju movies as of late. I’ve already started my GODZILLA collection—which is more likely to become an overall kaiju collection—and between Netflix and shot-in-the-dark purchases I’ve been through 3 Gamera movies and have stumbled on a rather disturbing discovery.
Granted, there are 12 Gamera movies altogether and I’ve only seen 3…and there are 28 Godzilla movies and I’ve only seen a little less than half…but so far…Gamera’s movies are showing an astounding level of superiority over the big G, in a technical aspect that is.
Don’t get me wrong. No one can touch Godzilla in my mind as far as franchises go. He’s a better monster, a better character, with better opposing monsters, and with some rather ingenious sub-plots sometimes. He’s the king of the monsters and no other can top him.
However…let’s face it. Many of his movies are terrible. GODZILLA vs HEDORA, GMK (despite having a really cook sub-plot), GHIDORA the THREE HEADED MONSTER, etc. They’re slow paced, have WAY TOO MUCH human screen-time in comparison with the monsters, and some absolutely ridiculous main plot lines at times (See Godzilla vs. King Ghidora.)
In comparison, GAMERA is astoundingly superior. The paces are tighter, nearly every other scene has GAMERA or some kind of monster in it, and the cinematography…oh my god the cinematography. The two Heisei era films I’ve seen alone blow Godzilla cinematography out of the water. The sense of scale is much more apparent, and destruction seems far more significant when Gamera destroys a building then when Godzilla does. Mostly because when Gamera destroys something, you see the consequence, people running away or getting crushed, etc.
Again, this may just be what I’ve seen so far. For all I know, the other half of the Godzilla movies might be better in this aspect. But at the same time…does it really matter? They’re both giant monster movies…it really shouldn’t make much of a difference.
I dunno…maybe I’m just trying to cover myself because I feel guilty for enjoying the Gamera movies so much. Like I’m cheating on the Big G…
It’s crazy, I know…but Godzilla is like a childhood friend for me, and I’d hate to feel like I’m trading him in favor for another…which is most definitely NOT the case.
